Dear Big Muddy Membership and Fellow Gamers,
Due to financial circumstances Command Con 2009 has been cancelled. The Big Muddy Executive Board has not come to this decision lightly and we are extremely disappointed in having to reach this conclusion. However, the financial realities responsible for this action are undeniable. The primary issue forcing this decision is based on the projected costs of the convention far exceeding the potential revenue generated. Projected low vendor participation in Command Con and the increased costs to be incurred in presenting the convention has made it impossible to reasonable secure the level of revenue necessary to insure a profitable outcome or at the least a break even proposition for the Con.
The anticipated operating cost for Command Con would have been slightly over $1,500 dollars. The anticipated revenue generated from the entry fees ($600) and the Vendor fees ($100) would produce revenue in the amount of $700 a potential $800 dollar loss. It would be extremely irresponsible for the board to continue with an event that would surely lose a substantial amount of the club’s revenue.
However, the cancellation of Command Con 2009 does not mean the end of Command Con or of Big Muddy. Over the past several weeks the Board has been working on securing an arrangement, at significantly reduced costs, that ensures the continuation of both Barracks Battles and Command Con in 2010. The actions we have taken will allow us to continue the mission of the organization in promoting the hobby of historical gaming in the St. Louis metropolitan area for the years to come.
I would also like to personally apologize to our membership and fellow gaming community for the cancellation of Command Con. It was not an easy decision and I am as disappointed as anyone over this outcome. But I am working diligently to continue the mission of Big Muddy and to ensure that this circumstance will never occur again in the future.
Sincerely,
David Paul Harrison
